Note: this level and the following one are played as a single section (from the previous level) - you will pass between them as the quest unfolds. If you follow this walkthrough you will pass through each section twice. Immediately below is the walkthrough for first time. Click here to jump to the walkthrough for the second time...
Lara slides into a pit at the start of this very short trip through the Hypostyle Hall. Climb out of the pit she lands in and go up the ramp to an outdoor area surrounded by towering walls. To the left there are several doorways between square columns. To the right there's a square opening framed with carvings.
Pick up the shotgun shells from one of the blocks against the far wall and then explore the doorways between the columns. You'll scare up two scorpions but will also find flares and a small medikit. Return outside and go through the square opening opposite.
Head to the right and kill 2 scorpions lurking between the columns. Climb to the floor above through one of the openings in the ceiling and look around for two more scorpions. You should also easily find some wideshot shells and Uzi clips in two of the nearby alcoves. Walk to the central opening facing the well lit, sandy coloured ledge at the far end of this room. Note the climbing bars set into the ceiling above and jump up to grab them.
Monkey swing across the gap and head for either of the two long ledges ahead of you on the right or left. Drop off the swing and jump to the dark ledges on either side of the room for more flares and shotgun shells. Return to the monkey bars and swing to the end. Jump for the sandy ledge and run along it to the right, picking up Uzi clips and a small medikit at the corner.
Drop off the ledge and continue to the dep pit where you're treated to a vision of Von Croy and his evil henchman arriving on the scene. the near edge of the deep pit has a section jutting out on the left. Take a running jump from this section across the pit and grab onto the other side. Haul up and continue to a small courtyard. There's a crawlspace here that currently leads to a dead end but for now head through the square opening to the north.
Inside the building on the left is a small medikit on the floor and Uzi clips on a ledge. Get these and slide down the ramp to the next level. It's been a brief visit, but you'll be back!
Lara is back in the pit that starts the Hypostyle Hall level. Climb out and go up the wide slope on the left to the courtyard. There's an assassin waiting for her outside - kill him and take his Uzi clips. These assassins are better trained than the thugs in the previous level - note especially that they can use their swords to shield themselves from Lara's bullets...
Go through the door on the right with the carvings and take out another assassin just inside (note how these guys crouch down behind blocks until you get close). Exit to the left through the sandy hall and continue to the deep pit, expecting to be ambushed near the corner by two more assassins in a clever pincer movement (phew!).
Take a running jump-grab across the pit from the lip at the left and side. Pull open and continue to the small open space with the crawlspace in the north west corner that you didn't bother with on the first run through. At the end of the crawlspace is a door which you can unlock with the Hypostyle Key. Finally(!) the Great Hypostyle Hall opens out in front of you...
Don't stand around gawping for too long - there's two assassins nearby that need putting out of their misery. One drops a small medikit when he dies. You're in a kind of large antechamber now. The wall opposite the entrance door has a large opening in it in the middle, leading through to a much larger room. There's shotgun shells on a low block inside, but as you approach them you're jumped by another assassin. Deal with him, take the shells and have a good look around.
In the roof there are loads of monkey swings and you should be able to see a section of these swings that is currently open, preventing access to the end of the swing - we'll get to that later. For now, continue on to the third large room through the central doorway in the opposite wall. Approaching the flares on the low block cayses another assassin to appear. When the coast is clear, note the switch high on the wall over to the right.
Return to the middle room and head left. The doorway here is blocked by fallen masonry - climb over it and search the small room beyond for a large medikit. Return to to the large room and use the fallen blocks to climb up to the upper storey of the hall. Go through the small room to the third large room. Jump to catch the monkey swing slats in the roof and swing forwards and then to the right to reach the ledge with the switch.
You mayhave heard some activity behind you during this swing, so roll on the ledge and take a look back the way you came - an assassin is hard on your heels! Send him crashing to the floor with a few well aimed shots and then turn back to the switch. Jump up to grab it and let Lara's weight pull it down.
Lara has managed to raise the trapdoor in the middle room, so turn around and jump to grab the monkey swing above the ledge. Traverse out into the middle of the large room and turn left to head through the central opening into the second large room (the swing doesn't go all the way - just drop and run through the little room in between).
At the entrance teo the second room, jump for the monkey swing here and traverse out and around to the left. The hand holds go up and down a bit, but you should quickly see the darker section of the swing that you recently pulled into position. Head for it and cross it before dropping to the ledge at the end of the swing. Roll when you land and look behind you to see another assassin following your trail. Take him out and note the shells he drops when he hits the floor below.
Pick up the Uzi clips at the end of the ledge you're on and then use the block at the other end to climb up a level. Cross the ledge to the middle of the room, jumping around a couple of columns on the way. The camera will do it's best to highlight a round stone sitting on top of a column to Lara's right and, unlikely as it may seem, a well aimed shot will send that stone crashing through the floor. Return to the ledge below the monkey swing handholds and safety drop to the floor.
Head for the hole in the floor, remebering to pick up the shells that the last assassin dropped. Safety drop into the hole and when you've picked yourself up have a good look around. Grab the Uzi clips to the right (just inside the crawlspace) and the head down the passage to the left. About halfway down are two doors leading into a room with a glowing pyramid in the centre. Just by the entrance doors is a chain - but pulling it now does nothing.
On the other three walls are entrances to side chambers. Climb onto either of the blocks below the opening opposite the entrance and climb into the room beyond. Two of the ledges in here have goodies on top: flares and shotgun shells. Note the carved stone needle attached to a gear wheel in the ceiling... Exiting this room, you can check out the room to the left, where there's some Uzi clips on a ledge. The remaining room has no goodies, so you can ignore it.
Exit the pyramid room and return to the corridor. Head left to the end and note the ladder leading up through a hole in the roof. Jump to the ladder and climb up. At the top of the ladder you enter the first gear room. You can see one of the carved needles through the broken floor - you need to turn the needle through a quarter turn clockwise using the wheel in the centre of the room.
exit throught the passage and go along the hall to the second gear room. This needle needs to swing a half turn, so push the gear twice in either direction. Exit through the next passage to the third gear room and turn this needle through a quarter turn anti-clockwise. If you haven't worked out the secret yet - all the needles are now pointing towards the glowing pyramid...
Retrace your steps to the first gear room and climb down the ladder to the passage. Return to the glowing pyramid room and pull the chain just inside the entrance. This time (if all the needles are set up correctly), giant hammers fall down and strike the needles, causing electricity to fire towards the glowing pyramid and shatter it.
Climb onto the block where the pyramid was and retrieve the Sun Disk. This opens up a hole between the two blocks on the west wall. Head for the hole, drop through and follow the passage...
