Level 2 - Burial chambers

Lara has crawled into the mouth of the Sphinx in Seth's tomb. She begins this level by sliding down a dimly lit slope into a chamber adorned with gold...

As you slide down the slope, make a standing jump at the section of the slope that glows red and grab the edge of a secret cave in the roof. Haul up for Secret #1 - a large medikit. Safety drop back to the slope and slide into the antechamber. Pull the nearby lever to open the exit gate.

Slide or jump into the room and pick up the Hand of Orion from the floor. Note the timer high on the wall and jump out of the hollow to the left. You should see some shotgun shells in the corridor below - if you don't you'll have to take a fairly easy running jump over the triangular slope (and the nasty looking blades) to get to the other exit path as they're Secret #2.

Picking up the secret opens the gate and allows you into a short corridor. There is a nasty circular blade trap ahead, but you can run through it if you get your timing right. In the next corridor section, shoot both jars and pick up the small medikit from inside one of them. Get through the next circular blade trap the same way as previously...

Pause at the entrance into the next room. Thankfully the nasty looking blades are stationery, allowing you to drop down to the floor and pick up the small medikit in the corner to the left. Climb back to the entrance after that. Use the Hand of Orion in the receptacle to start the nasty contraption revolving (and retract the nastier blades). Walk to the edge of the alcove, hop back and then take a standing jump-grab to reach the edge of the next block underneath the revolving blade trap. Shimmy to the right and around the corner.

The brave - or foolhardy - can attempt to reach the shotgun shells on top of the blocks: haul onto the top of the block, hop over the rotating blades, walk forward, hop over the blades and pick up the shells. Now repeat in reverse to hang off the edge of the block under the revolving blades. It probably isn't worth it!

Shimmy around the next two corners to the right, wait for the blades to pass and then haul up and immediately backflip to safety. You can get the shotgun/shells by taking a diagonal jump onto the ledge and avoiding the blades as before - but only the brave need try it... Falling off during these manouevres can be cured by returning to the alcove and climbing back up to where you inserted the Hand of Orion.

From where you backflipped, continue into the Tomb of Seth and let the panoramic movie play out...

Explore around the edge of the room first, picking up a small medikit and shotgun shells from the dark corners. Head out of the room through dark but richly decorated passage to the next room where there's a tall statue and some mummy cases. Head for the pit in the far left corner (picking up a small medikit at the base of a mummy case on the way) and find Secret #3 - a small medikit and more shells. Return to the room containing Seth's tomb and approach the foot of the sarcophagus.

A movie plays, in which Lara retrieves the Amulet of Horus... when control returns the channels of the room are flowing with fiery (though non-deadly) blood. Return to the room with the tall statues and note that the mummy cases are now open. The tall statue in the middle of the room is movable - you need to push it across the room to stand on the tile with the circle painted on it (the one that matches the tile under the statue at the start).

When the statue is moved you get sight of a door opening behind - gulp - a mummy. These mummies aren't difficult to avoid but can't be killed. You need to lure the mummy out of it's alcove and then run into the alcove behind it, follow the passage and drop down the pit. Follow the hallway to a huge cave.



Walk through the cave until it opens out and you can see some buildings. Just in front of the ground level building you'll be attacked by two black dogs. When they are dealt with check out the area you've entered: There's a huge gold pillar supporting a building high above it in one corner; the ornate building in front of you; some wide, rocky steps leading to the higher level and a wooden bridge one part of the steps to the high building on the upper level.

Head up the stairs to the upper level. After passing a grate high in the wall on your right, look for a dip to the right of the stairs and drop in the pit to find Secret #4 - a large medikit. Climb out and continue up the stairs to the wide ladder at the top (we'll be crossing the wooden bridge later).

Climb up the ladder and shoot the jars to get at the small medikit and shells inside them. Climb through one of the openings into the next room and note the gate high on the wall and the mummies lying on the floor. Take the Golden Serpent from the pedestal, which causes the entrance gates to close, the exit gate to open and the mummies to awake... High tail it out of the room through the exit gate and follow the passage to a ramp.

Slide into the next room, which immediately starts filling with sand, raising Lara closer and closer to the spiked ceiling. Turn left and sprint to the end of the room heading for the (left) corner where there are no spikes. Climb out into the passage and follow it to a deep hole in the floor. Jump across for the large medikit and then drop down the opposite side of the hole onto a block and safety drop back into the cave.

Go up the rock stairs but this time cut left by the burning torch and head for the wooden bridge. Cross the bridge and climb the staircase in the building beyond, killing two black dogs that menace you on the way up. Drop through the opening and follow the hall to a very strange angular room. Take a diagonal standing jump to the block on your left and get as near the sloping wall as possible, aiming to jump into the doorway slightly to your right. Jump in and pick up the shotgun shells.

If you miss and slide back to the floor, simply climb onto the opposite ledge and do as running jump-grab to return to the first. With the shells safely gathered in, slide down to the floor and climb up the block there and then onto the longer ledge above. Jump to the smaller ledge from the far end of this and then take a running jump across the blades to land on a block with a receptacle for something you don't yet have. There's a ladder on the front face of the block that juts out above the receptacle - jump to grab it and climb up.

Pull the lever in the alcove to open the gate below where you entered the room. Climb down from the ledge, retrace your steps to floor level and then enter the open gate. Pull the lever here to make the entire room rotate. Wow! Take a standing jump to the doorway and return to the main room. Safety drop into the pit and pick up the Hand of Sirius. Follow the passage to a ladder, which leads back to the main room. Climb up the block ahead and take a standing jump-grab to the next one. Pull up, noting the blades above your head, and make it to the left hand side of this ledge (jump left or crawl under the blades).

Take another standing jump to the doorway below the open grate in the side wall and follow the passage to a deep hole. Jump forwards and grab the wall. Climb down the ladder, roll and enter a room with a chain. Pull the chain to rotate the main room again and then exit through the door ahead, avoiding the awakened mummies. Climb the ladder back to the main room and then turn left and jump over an angled block to a ledge. Climb up to the receptacle on the side wall. Use the Hand of Sirius to lower a rope from the ceiling and then take a running jump-grab to get to it. Rotate Lara so that the opening at the end of the room is dead ahead and then swing towards it and leap off onto the ledge.

Enter the passage and pick up the Scarab Talisman off the pedestal. Squeeze past the pedestal and head down the hall, killing two more black dogs on the way. There's a third dog just beyond the ornate pillars and the route is then clear to the end of the hall, where you drop back down into the cave.

Go through the ornate door at ground level and climb over the block into a sandy room. Use the Golden Serpent and the Scarab Talisman in the two receptacles here to cause the room to fill with sand and the mummy to awake. Avoid the mummy (use it for target practice if you like!) until the sand has raised Lara high enough for her to climb out. Head for the light at the end of the tunnel to end the level and meet up with your guide in rather strained circumstances...
