Level 25 - Trenches

Drive down the slope and straight across the road at the bottom to park near a raised section with columns. Hop up onto the platform and collect some Uzi clips. Return to the bike and head over to the palm tree on the right. Dismount and go through the doorway behind the palm into a narrow street.

Note the high ramp ahead, but turn left and follow the street until it turns left across the front of a big building with solid square columns on the right. There's a soldier lurking behind the first of the columns, so make short work of him and continue until just before the T-junction beyond the building.

The junction is covered by a machine gun down the street to the right. You need to sprint around the corner to the left and jump up a sandhill, where you're out of range. Pick up a large medikit and Uzi clips and use the binoculars to scope out the machine gun (on the left under the bridge down the street).

So long as you have Lara hug the left hand wall you can get within a couple of paces of the gun without being seen. From here you can see that the soldiers have been building trenches with sandbagged walls and pit pops, world war style. On the right hand side of the street, there's an entrance that gets you behind one of the sandbagged walls and hides you from the machine gun.

Run across the street through a hail of gunfire and into the trench entrance. Crouch down as soon as you're in the lee of the trench (you don't need to go all the way behind the sandbags to be safe). Now crawl further into this area, hugging the trench wall on your left. Turn left with the wall as soon as you can and keep crawling until you reach the full height wall with the spy hole.

So long as you haven't been fired at while crawling it's now safe to stand. Draw your revolver and combine it with the laser sight. Now take aim through the spy hole at the rear section of the red tubing that's on the side of the machine gun and a single shot should blow the gun up.

Come out of the safe spot and climb onto the low part of the trench wall. Climb up the next section and then jump left onto the ledge (you'll fall off if you vault). Collect the super grenades and then return to ground. Climb up onto the trench wall behind where the machine gun was and drop into the hole. Drop down again and go forward into a misty section of trench.

Don't go beyond the knee high crawlspace to your left - the corridor ahead is covered by a flame thrower! Crouch down and just go far enough into the crawlspace to enable you to view ahead. There's two steam pipes emitting scalding steam in a pattern just ahead and the room beyond is patrolled by a soldier. Perfection is timing a crawl between the pipes when it's safe and making into the room when the soldier's back is turned.

You're much more likely to get scalded or shot at doing this manoeuvre (probably both), so try to get it over with as quickly as possible! Once you're in the room alone, shoot the crate at the rear corner and retrieve some wideshot shells. The soldier you killed drops a small medikit. Avoid the small fire as you move around.



Climb up the left hand side of the alcove in this area and turn around. Through a crawlspace opposite you can see the flame thrower - take it out with a single revolver shot to the red triangular mark on it's side. This excites a nearby soldier beyond the flame thrower, but you'll need to switch to the crossbow to take him out (don't waste explosive ammo).

Possibly for a similar reason, Lara won't crawl all the way through the crawlspace, so return to the previus room and crawl out past the steam pipes into the corridor beyond. Turn left and then right into the street you were just shooting down.

Go underneath a wrecked vehicle to a T-junction and crawl through the crawlspace on your right. The two steam pipes in here are spaced wider, so it's easier to get past safely. In the dark area beyond is a dead soldier who has dropped the weapon code key. Pick it up and exit back to the main trench. Continue on to the end, where there's a deep pit with a machine gun on the other side that, thankfully, seems to be out of ammo.

To the left of the pit, you can jump to grab a crevice in the trench wall. Traverse to the right around the corner and keep going, timing your move past the steam pipe, until you reach the other side of the deep pit. Drop down and roll with your weapons drawn to take out a soldier who surprises you from behind. Pick up a large medikit from behind the machine gun.

Continue through the trench to an area with a wrecked Land Rover. When you approach the engine of this another soldier comes at you from behind. Take him out and then stand close to the engine compartment and press [action] to have Lara prise the valve pipe out. Go into the dark section of trench opposite the Land Rover and shoot the wooden box at the rear corner (on the left, just beyond the overhead lights) to retrieve a large medikit.

Retrace your steps (across the pit, where the steam pipe has stopped being a problem, through the trenches and out onto the street, along the narrow streets) to the palm tree where you left the motorbike. Combine the nitrous oxide canister with the valve pipe and 'use' the resulting nitrous oxide feeder from the inventory when standing close to the bike (pressing [action] at this point gets Lara astride the bike).

With the feeder fitted, mount up, turn around and head along the street, turning left to drive up the slope back to the Chambers of Tulun.
