Level 3 - Shakespeare Cliff

Lara's helicopter drops her off inside the construction compound at the English end of the Channel Tunnel (at Shakespeare Cliff, near Dover). Check out the area, killing a gunman who tries to take you out along the way. There's a set of flares on the yellow crate near the truck and a moveable steel box between the truck and the door in the far left corner of the compound.

Push this box away from the truck to find some Desert Eagle clips. Pick up some MP5 clips on the low cement ledge near the door. Use the switch on the wall to the left of the door to open it and enter, guns at the ready. Kill the first tunnel worker that appears and then press deeper into the complex and take out two more that valut into the computer room as you arrive. Pick up the small medikit near the bank of computers and then retrace your steps a little.

In the room before the computer room, there's another steel crate. Push the crate towards the black mesh fence and pick up the shells underneath. Now pull the crate back into place and go around the back. You can now get into the fenced area and find some more shotgun shells. Climb behind the pile of yellow boxes to find Secret #1 - a large medikit.

Now return to the computer room and find the ventilation ducts with horizontal slats to the left of the stairs where the third worker appeared from. Shoot them out with pistols and approach cautiously. The fire traps across the series of stepped ledges aren't too fearsome. Take care timing your runs and get through to the open area at the top.

Note the huge drill here and as you peer over the edge of the shaft, note also that there's a ladder heading downwards on the opposite side. Run around there and set Lara up with her chest against the far wall and her back to the grey plaque with the red lightning bolt that's fixed to the shaft wall. Backflip and grab the edge of the shaft as Lara slides down into it. Let her get her legs onto the ladder and then climb down as quickly as you can. Above you, the drill has been set into motion!

Climb down until you reach the alcove on the left. Below you is a fire trap, so shimmy left onto the ledge and keep close to the wall when you step off the ladder. There's another fire trap in the alcove behind you but it's safe to turn round. When the flames have died down, cross to the other side of the ledge and pick up the MP5 clips. While you've been doing this two drills have probably descended down the shaft and, if so, it's now safe to continue.

Take a running jump across the shaft to the opposite ledge, near a huge fan. Use the switch on the side of the metal block to open a trapdoor beyond the fan. Then climb onto the block and into the crawlspace just above it. Ignore the squeaking and crawl forwards quickly to the left, where Lara is able to stand up and take out the two rats that have been nibbling on her. Use the switch here to turn off two of the big fans and pick up the small medikit.

Crouch down and crawl to the end of the passsageway opposite the switch. Turn around and safety drop down to the floor. Lara lands in a doorway. The steps behind her lead back to the computer room but we want to turn right and climb into the hallway with the 'Euro Chunnel Ltd.' logo. Continue down the corridor to one of the fans you just turned off.

Climb onto the ledge to the right of the fan and shoot out the vent with your pistols. Enter the passageway behind and shoot out the second vent at the far end. Slide down and pick up some grenades. Take a standing jump back up the slope to the passageway and return to the fan. Go past it to find the trapdoor you opened earlier. Slide backwards into the opening, grabbing the edge as you fall off, and drop to the walkway below.

Go around the corner behind the support pillar to get some flares. Then return to the walkway and safety drop from the ledge, taking care to avoid the burning barrels. Cross the room and climb onto the metal ledge above the deep drill shaft. Take a running jump across the shaft to the other side. Hop down off the ledge and climb up onto the uneven cement ledge to the right. Now hop back, draw weapons and shoot the workman who climbs onto the ledge in front of you. Pick up his small medikit.

Clamber over the cement ledge and go behind the next support pillar and round to the left. Jump over the gap to the mesh walkway beyond. Line Lara up with the higher level mesh walkway and jump to grab it's edge. Haul up and head to the left to deal with a gunman in the dark corridor in front of you. When he's dead, go up the ramp but watch out for the fire trap at the top. When it's safe, run through and then turn around.

Take a diagonal standing jump onto the roof of the right hand fire grille and have a good look at the vents on the wall. Shoot out the middle one with the horizontal slats. Go to the end of the short passage behind the vent, turn around and climb into the passage above your head. Continue on to a room with a mesh floor and pick up a small medikit and shotgun shells. Retrace your steps down to the ramp on the far side of the fire trap grilles.

Head onwards and slide down the slope onto a small ledge above the train tracks. In a brief cut scene, you'll see a large door opening to the left. Hop down onto the tracks and immediately go forwards and take a standing jump up the opposite slope to a ledge near a yellow door to avoid the oncoming Eurostar train. When it's passed by, jump down to the tracks and head right (assuming the yellow door is behind you) towards the gates that you saw opening. Stay close to the left hand wall of the tunnel.

Dramatic music and the sight of a large medikit precede another train emerging from the tunnel. Lara is safe if you keep her close to the wall and you can pick up the medikit when the train has gone by. Now turn around and walk back along the tunnel to an opening on the right hand side. Take a standing jump up the slope and scramble into the cave. Surprise! You've found Stevenson's 'Rocket' - an historic steam engine - and Secret #2 - the rocket launcher (ho, ho). Exit the cave and return up the tracks to the main tunnel.

Return up the tracks to the yellow door and use the nearby switch to open it. It closes automatically but gives you plenty of time to get inside. Kill the workman who jumps you as soon as you get inside and a gunman who appears a bit later. Pick up the flares that one of them drops. Search the room to find the quad bike behind some boxes.

Rev up the bike and ride up the ramps inside the room until you're at the top. Line up a straight run from the rear wall of this room, over a lowered section of floor and out over the tracks to the opposite opening. You'll need turbo (which actually means holding the handbrake until you reach full power) and don't get distressed by the third Eurostar that speeds by as you jump the railway tracks. Keep going when you land and drive up the slope and over the deep pit lined with radioactive gloop. At the top of the next ramp steer the bike to the right and hit the brakes to clang against a wall and avoid driving into a second pit.

Turn the bike round carefully (a multi point turn!) so that the fenced opening is behind Lara. Line up a jump across the second pit using the uneven (left) side of the pit as a ramp. Keep to the right hand side of this ramp on take off and use turbo again. When you land, keep going into the next area (bearing right) and run over the orange suited worker to the right of the crashed train. Now dismount and survey the devastation.

A Eurostar train has crashed into a huge hole that has opened up in what appears to be a vast cavern within the channel tunnel (a connstruction area, perhaps?). Thankfully, the train doesn't appear to have been full of passengers at the time, but there are signs of unfriendly life down in the hole if you go to the edge and peer in...

Return to the train after you've explored and face the engine. To you left is a machine on a ledge with a switch nearby that turns it on. The vibrations shake open a portaloo door in the set of toilets around the corner. Take care not to fall in the pit while investigating! Head down the left side of the engine and go to the left, round the corner to find them.

Inside the open toilet is a computer terminal that Lara can't operate just yet. Exit the toilet and approach the other two portaloos to see the doors spring open on you. Inside the first is a set of shotgun shells, while inside the second is a rather surprised workman and another set of shells.

Now return to the front of the train and go down the right hand side. climb over the yellow ledge onto a metal ledge at the edge of the pit. Draw a good weapon and take a diagonal standing jump over to the next ledge on the right. Kill the workman who rushes out of the shadows in front of you and tries to head to your left. If he makes it to the barrel at the end of the ledge, he'll light it and cause you difficulties later on...

With the barrel still unlit, simply climb onto the ledge behind it and retrieve the rocket lying on the floor at the end. If the barrel is lit you must take much more care but can still climb up onto the left side of the ledge, taking some heat damage. Now return to the main floor of the cavern and climb aboard your trusty quadbike.

Drive the quad up the wooden ramps to the right of the train and position it at the base of the last ramp. Now jump the bike up onto the roof of the train. Don't use turbo and as soon as you land the bike, cut to the right and apply the brakes. It's easier than you think! Once on top of the train, line up a jump along the roof and across the pit to the tunnel opening on the opposite side. Bear slightly to the right as you leap off the train but there's no need to use turbo if you take a long run up.

Keep the power on as you land and you'll ride up the uneven ledges into the opening. When you reach the top, veer right to avoid the flaming barrel on the ledge ahead (you fall into a shallow hole but don't worry about that). Shake yourself down and get comfortable on that quad bike seat again - we're going to drive down the pit no and it's a little tricky...

Drive down the sloping tunnel that you stopped in front of and follow it around a U-turn at the bottom. Dramatic music accompanies a brief glimpse of a sniper on the other side of a mesh fence, but he should be ignored for now. Dismount near the narrow doorway and walk out onto the jutting ledge beyond to retrieve a small medikit. Take a look at the view ahead and then return to the quad bike.

Use turbo and race along the jutting ledge to the end, jumping off it bearing slightly to the left. Keep the power when you land at the sloping base of a support tower and gradually steer the bike to safe ground on a ledge against the pit wall to the left of the tower. Note that you'll slide off the landing zone if you don't keeo the power on...

Turn left (hopefully you're already facing left!) and drive carefully along the the ledge. Dismount near the next support tower and go forward on foot. When Lara emerges from the safety of the tower, two snipers begin taking pot shots at her. Shoot them. One is on a ledge above the sloped rim of the pit to the right and the other is in the doorway on the opposite side of the pit (he's the one you saw behind the mesh fence earlier).

Pick up some flares on the ground near where you stopped the bike and then get back on it. Head out along the sloping, brown rim of the pit to the doorway in the opposite corner, where the second sniper was standing. Steer the quad slightly uphill on the sloping section to avoid making the long plunge to the bottom!

Once inside the room on the far side of the pit, dismount and pick up the set of MP5 clips on the staircase. Roll and shoot the two rats that sneak up on you from behind. Get back on the quad bike and drive it into the pit to the left of the stairs - it looks a bit deep, but Lara'll be OK. Note the medikit and machines behind the mesh fence and dismount from the quad bike.

Walk through the short tunnel into a cave-like area. As you enter a barrel ignites and a workman appears. Deal with him and then return to the quad bike and drive it into the cave area (if you drive into the cave before checking it out on foot the workman won't turn up). Stop the quad at the top of the slight hump just beyond the barrel (facing slightly downhill). Ignore the sniper opposite if he starts firing at you but note where he's standing...

Use turbo to rev the bike engine and then roar towards the entrance of the cave and launch yourself towards the sniper's platform. Run over him when you land and then dismount. Pick up the set of clips that the sniper drops and then go through the corridor on the right to retrieve some grenades from a fenced in ledge. Return to the quad bike and pull the switch on the orange support column to open a gate on the other side of the pit.

Pick up the drill activator card lying nearby on the floor and then climb aboard the trusty quad bike and head towards the gate you just opened, jumping the gap in the walkway along the way. Inside the room beyond the gate is a raised alcove with a small medikit (it's the one you saw from the other side of the mesh fence earlier). Pick it up and go through the room with the burning barrel to climb into the opening onto a metal walkway. Kill two tunnel workers and take a small medikit and flares from the corpses.

Go to the right end of the tunnel behind the large machine. You'll find some Uzi clips behind one of the portaloos. Take them and climb on top of the portaloo to kill the three rats that come out to nibble on Lara. Return to the large machine (which you can now see is a tunnel boring device) and climb onto the back of it. Use the switch, which turns the machine on and opens a trapdoor in the metal walkway that crosses the machine.

Find the walkway and drop through the trapdoor into the control room. Use the drill activator card by the white card reader on the wall and then grab hold of something solid as the machine begins to move forward. The massive vibrations actually only stop when you exit from the control room, so climb out and go round to the front of the drill to see that it has dug out a section of tunnel. Climb over the banked up debris to discover an opening in the ground.

Slide down into this opening and go into the tunnel, killing a couple of rats on the way. Use the switch and then walk out to the gate it opens and take a running jump to grab the other side of the pit. Haul up and take the pump access disk. When you do this, a cut scene shows you the portaloos at the top of the pit - guess where Lara's heading next!

Turn around and take a running jump across the pit to grab hold of the ladder on the side of the blue support pillar. Climb to the top. Take a standing jump from the ledge at the top of the ladder to the tunnel on the left. Go through the tunnel to the bottom of the pit with a ladder and climb up this to the stairs above. Exit round to the left through the opening at the top of the stairs onto the cement ledge. Climb the blue ladder at the left end of the ledge and, near the top, switch to the ladder on the right and climb to the top.

You're now at the top of the deep pit by the train wreck. If you killed the orange suited workman on this ledge earlier on there'll be no trouble now, but if you didn't expect him to surface at the right end of the walkway. Jump to the lower walkway and then jump to the ledge next to the wrecked train from the far end of this lower walkway.

Walk around the front of the train engine and past the machine to the portaloos you investigated earlier. Go into the unit on the left and use the pump access disk in the computer next to the toilet. This turns on a set of pumps and fills the deep pit with water.

Walk out to the rim of the pit and jump into the water below. It's deep and wide enough to practise some of Lara's favourite dives: try a swan dive with a couple of rolls thrown in... At the bottom of the pool, pick up three sets of harpoons and then urface for air. Return to the bottom of the pool and head through the underwater cave, picking up more harpoons along the way.

Surface at the end and climb out onto a narrow walkway. This is Secret #3. Walk carefully up the path and take care not to fall into the lava pits. At the end, take a diagonal standing jump to the left to the next ledge. Jump up the slope. Now slide down the ramp and jump forward to grab the corner ledge. Haul up and pull out a decent weapon to take out the pteradactyl that flies in from the left.

Take a standing jump to the next ledge and from there, take a running jump to the wide ledge just beyond that. Take a running jump to the sqauer corner ledge and turn around to shoot another pteradactyl as soon as you land. After the flying beastie has been killed, turn around to face the wall and position Lara against it. Jump up and grab the edge of the slope. Shimmy left along the crevice but don't quite go to the far end of the rock wall. When Lara is two squares away from the left end of the crevice, haul up and press [jump] to backflip to a ledge behind her.

Pick up a large medikit, turn around and follow the short path towards the centre of the cave, where there's a lava pit. Turn right to see a nother large medikit on the next ledge. Wait for a pteradactyl to fly up from behind the medikit and shoot it down. then jump to the medikit, turn around and shoot another pteradactyl that flies in from behind.

Now pick up the large medikit and jump into the water. Swim back to the pool at the bottom of the train crash pit. Go through the passageway above on the left (which is now underwater) to finish the level.
