Lara flys into Scotland via an unscheduled flight from Union Jack Airways. It's raining (in Scotland it rains more than in England!). The helicopter drops her off almost at the door of Willard's ruined castle, overlooking Lock Ness...
Grab onto the vine covered wall with the barred window and climb up to the top. Safety drop down the other side. Climb on top of the wooden crate near the small pool, stand at the left corner and jump diagonally forwards to grab the vines in the ceiling. Traverse across the pool and drop onto the small, triangular ledge near the sign that says "Willard's Well". The ledge here is very small and has a slippery edge, so step backwards carefully and pick up the small medikit.
Slide into the pool below and swim through the underwater opening to the right to enter Loch Ness. Swim forwards until the current picks Lara up and sweeps her downstream. When control returns, swim to the surface and go between the pillars of the stone bridge up ahead. A little further on is a wooden landing stage with harpoons on the lake bottom beneath it.
Climb out of the water onto the landing stage and walk up the dirt path past the "Do Not Enter" signs. At the top, go through the doorway in the stone wall on your left. Before going up the ramp, run down to the left of it and crawl inside the crawlspace you'll find there. Just inside, in an alcove to the right, you'll find a box of flares. Come back out and go up the ramp.
Pick up the shotgun shells at the top and allow the guard that you'll see to run across to the iron gate and open it. While he's doing this, run across the open area to the right and jump onto the ledge through the archway. From here you can focus on killing the guard when he returns and then drop back down to the open area and kill the rabod dog that the guard released.
After the fight, go around and pick up a large medikit (behind the open gate) and the flares that the guard drops. The trapdoor in the area beyond the gate that the guard opened links this area to the crawlspace you were in a little earlier. No point investigating that any further, so climb back onto the raised area beyond the stone archway and head to the right. Drop down - outside - onto a ledge above the lake.
Follow the ledge to the end and the camera view will show you a guard on the bridge section ahead. It isn't worth trying to kill him from here, so take a standing jump (with a touch of leftwards motion in the air) from the end of the ledge to land on the bridge. Now chase after that guard and finish him. Pick up the shells that he drops and a second box of shells from the stone ledge on the far side of the bridge.
After picking up the second box of shells, walk out to the edge of this ledge and stare out over the lake. If you're lucky you'll see the Lock Ness Monster swimming across the horizon to a spot behind the tower on the right with a flagpole on it. Now return to the main part of the bridge and continue towards the ruins. You'll pass by two little watch towers and shortly afterwards a crow will attack Lara from above.
Continue towards the steam vent and scare up a flock of bats. Get the shotgun shells from on top of the steam vent and retrace your steps until you're back on the ledge from where you saw Nessie (that's the ledge that looks towards the flagpole tower on the right). Below you, to the left, you should see two glints of metal on the rocks of the lake shore. The glint furthest away is a pair of Uzis which is almost impossible to reach. You'll get another chance at them in a later level, so ignore them.
The glint of metal close to the bridge is a set of harpoons. Jump off the bridge into the water and let the current sweep Lara back to the pool beneath the bridge. Behind Lara, near the long wooden breakwater, you'll find more harpoons on the lake bottom. From there, swim across the lake and climb out of the water near the opposite bridge support. Pick up the harpoons you saw from above and go along the rocks, under the bridge, to pick up a second set behind the next bridge pillar.
Jump back in the water and swim around the beach to the wooden dock where you climbed out earlier. Climb out again and return up the path to the top. Just to the right of the doorway in the wall is a stone block. Climb on this and jump across the gap to the block in the corner of the massive walls. From here you can take a running jump to grab the long ledge on the side of the bridge and haul up.
Jump to the main part of the bridge and go along the right side to a ledge that overhangs the water. Take a running jump from the middle of this ledge out into space (aiming for the greenery on the rocks below) and Lara should land safely on a triangular flat spot. Take a standing jump from the top corner of the triangle to the rocks ahead and a little to the left. Lara will land and slide down to another flat spot near the water.
Take a standing jump from from the inner corner of that triangle up the slope to the flat spot above. (Hold down the forward key for just a moment to prevent Lara slipping back, but if you hold it too long she'll go over the top down the next slope). Take one more standing jump up hill and then look over the ridge to your right to see a rocket. Take a standing jump over the ridge down to the ledge and pick up your prize. Now take a running jump back to the wooden dock and return to the castle bridge.
Head along the right side of the bridge and walk out onto the ledge next to the dog statue on the right. Take a standing jump from the edge of the ledge to grab the vines on the castle walls. Another bird starts squawking as it heads for you, so backflip back to the ledge where you started and take it out. Repeat the jump when the coast is clear and climb up the vines. When you get near the top, climb to the left and dismount on the ledge. Get onto the main section of roof and approach the far end.
You'll encounter both a crow and a guard lurking behind the wall. Take care of them and then look for the raised opening with vine covered rocks below. Climb up to the opening to find Secret #1 - the shotgun and 2 boxes of shells. Go to the outside corner of the secret room that overlooks the lake. Face the steep slope and turn around so the secret room is on Lara's left. Slide down the slope backwards and grab the edge as you fall off.
Now climb all the way down the right side of the tower to the rocks below (you can climb over the windows!). Note the small room that you pass on your way down. It contains a switch and we'll return here soon...
Cross the rocks to the wooden breakwater and slide down onto it. Pick up a small medikit and take a standing jump back up the rocks to the flat area on top. Walk across the rocks to the side facing the open water and the tower with the flag. From the triangular area near the castle wall, take a running jump towards the area beyond the corner of the castle. You'll need to steer right a little in the air to land on a flat spot just beyond the corner and then you can pick up the harpoon gun and some harpoons.
From the edge of this ledge, looking into directly ahead, you can probably see the temptation of those Uzis again... don't bother trying to get them as the current's too strong! Patience is a virtue, though possibly not one of Lara's! Jump into the lake (swan diving is neat) and let the current sweep you away. Swim back to the small wooden dock and return to the bridge as you have before.
At the far end of the bridge, near the steam vent and the two dog statues, are two iron gates. If you head to the right of the gates you'll come to a ledge that looks over a gap into a large, opening in the wall opposite. A guard will likely appear - finish him off quickly, if possible. Now jump over the gap to where he was patrolling.
Go forward and to the right to see a pool ahead. Jump in and retrieve the 2 bunches of harpoons and a crowbar from the bottom. climb out of the water and go up the low steps to the right of the pool. Here you'll find the switch that opens the right gate near the steam vent. After pulling the switch, you only have a short time to get through the gate before it closes. So pull the switch, turn left and take a standing jump over the sloped wall, run towards the bridge and jump the gap onto the bridge deck. Now turn right and run through the gate.
Go down the stairs into the room beyond. Kill the guard who runs to hide behind the boxes. Pick up a small medikit that he drops and then enter the next room with the dog statue. There's another guard in here but don't kill him immediately - wait until he opens the gate for you. Quickly run through the open gate, roll and finish off the guard. This gate closes automatically, so don't delay.
Use the crowbar to pry open the wooden door at the end of the short passage. Inside is Secret #2 - a tomb containing the MP5 assault rifle and 2 sets of clips. Exit through the crawlspace to the right of the gate. As you crawl through the grating at the end opens and one of the burners goes out so you can exit in safety.
Follow the dog statue's nose into the graveyard. As you explore, another guard emerges. He drops shells when you kill him. There are openings off the graveyard to the right and the left - go right first. Just inside the next area, on the right, lurks another guard. Kill him and pick up some shells on the steps and a small medikit in the alcove at the left side of the steps.
The pool of mud is too deep to wade through here, so return to the graveyard and head across to the area on the far side. Go through the open area to the right until you come to a ramp leading down to a mud pool. Take a standinfg jump to the top of the square stone pillar to the right of the ramp. Turn right and take a running jump to the right side of the next pillar with the purple flowers growing on it. Avoid the left side, which is too slippery to stand on. A crow flies in and tries to knock you off the pillar if you let it, so kill it quickly.
Look out over the mud pool below the pillar and notice the coat of arms painted on the right wall. Take a running jump along the right side of the purple flowered pillar, aiming to land near the coat of arms. Lara's head will sink below the mud, but if you head for the opening, she'll be fine. Continue into the dark, mud-filled room beyond. Walk out of the mud and crawl through another low opening at the far left. When the passageway comes to a T-junction, head left.
You enter an outdoor area with several wooden crates and a couple of dog statues. Collect the items on top of the crates (MP5 clips, shells, flares and a large medikit), but beware of the dog statues coming to life when you pick up the medikit. Return to the crawlspace you entered this area from and, when you get to the junction, go ahead and to the left.
After a short crawl Lara will be able to stand again. Look around and head through another crawlspace to emerge on a ledge above the mud pool. Go along this ledge until Lara can stand and then climb the ledges, picking up a small medikit along the way. Look for a steam vent when you think you can't go any further and climb up the last ledge to retrieve the Thistle Stone.
Turn around, jump to grab the vine covered ceiling and monkey swing out and to the left across the mud pool. When you reach the far end of the pool, drop onto a ramp and slide down into the hallway below. Slide down another short ramp to land near the pool where you found the crowbar. Return to the main part of the bridge and approach the steam vent between the two iron gates.
Go to the far side of the bridge (to the left of the steam vent), beyond the gates and jump to grab the vines to the right of the opening. The slope here is too steep to climb, so shimmy below it and go left to drop onto the ledge below. Jump from the ledge to grab the vine covered wall of the castle near the other opening in the tower wall, then climb into the opening. Try not to fall out when the flock of bats fly out.
Check out this tower room and find the closed gate and switch embedded in the wall. The switch opens the gate to the left of the steam vent on the bridge. The gate is timed to close after a few seconds, so you need to hurry to get there. Pull the switch, have Lara roll and run/slie down to the opening on the left. Slide down the left side of the ramp and jump the gap to land on the bridge. Run through the open gate and kill the guard inside.
In the area beyond the gate there are small square openings along the left side. These lead to a ramp with a gate and the switch that opens it. Going through gets you back to the tower room, but there's nothing to be gained, so ignore it.
Leave the room through the door in the far left corner (under the triangular barred window). To the right is a wide gate with two snake shaped recptacles. This is the level exit but you need another Thistle Stone to open it. Go through the doorway on the left.
Walk up the winding set of steps. The dog statue comes to life as you approach and you need to defend yourself. At the top of the steps, slide down the steep slope and continue to the next open area. The grass here looks poisoned but is safe. Just inside this area there's a green slope on the left: don't jump over it as there's a deep pit filled with toxic slime on the other side.
Continue up the path and around the wall to approach the pit from the side. Before crossing the pit, go around it, past the barred window, and pick up the flares on the far side. Return to the edge of the pit, jump up to grab hold of the vines on the ceiling and traverse the pit to the small alcove on the far side. As the camera zooms out, you'll see a crow beginning to flap around above, but you won't be able to kill it right away.
Crawl through the low opening, stand and turn right. Position Lara on the left side of the hallway facing the low alcove ahead and to the right. Run towards it and quickly duck and crawl in to avoid a deadly rolling boulder. When it passes, crawl back out and continue along the hallway to a low ledge on the right. Crawl along it to reach another crawlspace. Go through here to emerge on a ledge above the mud pit.
Now you can shoot that pesky bird and an armed guard who makes his presence felt around now. Climb the steps and get the small medikit in the alcove on the left. Walk outside onto the ledge at the top of the steps. Turn right and take a running jump to grab the next ledge. Haul up and keep your footing when the flock of bats flies out. Re-enter the building here and go to the left and turn completely around.
Jump to grab the vines on the wall above the right side of the opening and climb up almost to the top. Backflip from the vines to a ledge behind you and then take a running jump to the jutting stone ledge in the middle of the room. Shoot the crow that flies out of the dark alcove and then go into this alcove for some MP5 clips. Walk back out to the end of the ledge and take a running jump to the alcove with the small medikit. Pick it up and return to the middle ledge with another running jump.
Walk to the peak of the ledge, turn to face the alcove where you got the MP5 clips and jump straight up to grab the edge of the square opening above. Pull up onto the roof. Cross to the steam vent and kill the crow that appears when you reach it, then take the second Thistle Stone. Safety drop back through the square opening onto the ledge below.
Now safety drop from the end of the jutting stone ledge to the walkway spanning the middle of the room. Cross it until just before the slight uphill slope at the end and then turn right so that Lara's facing the opening in the corner. Take a running jump from the walkway into this alcove, but be sure to angle the jump so Lara lands on the right side of the ledge and doesn't bang her head on the overhang.
Pick up the MP5 clips in the alcove and walk through the opening to the far side of the ledge. Position Lara at the left corner of the opening angled a little to the left. Take a standing jump toward the dark opening in the left hand wall, pressing [Action] while Lara is in the air to lower her arc a little. All being well, Lara will jump through an opening in the wall, land on a slope and slide off it to come to a halt on a square pillar above a pool of mud.
Turn Lara through 180 degrees and safety drop off the back of the pillar to get a large medikit. Then jump carefully around the right side of the pillar to land on the rocks beyond. Get this jump wrong and Lara is a goner - but not before you see Nessie enjoying herself!
Enter the cave beyond the pillar to find Secret #3. Splash through the shallow mud until you come to a pool of clear water. Swim down to the bottom on the right side to get some flares. surface and walk out of the water on the far side of the pool. Keep to the right here, so Lara doesn't get singed when Nessie pops out of a crevice breathing fire!!
Wait for Nessie to take a breath and then jump into the small square pool under her neck. Swim down, following the underwater passage through several twists and turns. Ebentually you'll come to a pool where you can surface. You somewhere behind Nessie and that large grey sloping shape nearby is the great monster's body! You can't climb onto Nessie's back but there is an opening underwater behind her flipper...
Swim through to emerge in a control room and pull up out of the water to surprise the guard operating Nessie's controls. Kill the guard and pick up a large medikit and grenades from the floor. Marvel for a moment at the schematics of the mechanical monster and consider how much the tabloids will pay for a scoop of this adventure...!
Use the switch on the right side of the control room to open the gate on the other side. Exit through this, killing a wild dog about halfway up the stairs beyond. Continue to the top and then climb the block ledges and slide down to the path with the winding steps. Follow the steps down to the hallway with the two snake receptacles and use the two Thistle Stones in the receptacles to open the gate.
Pick up the flares on the other side of the gate and slide down the ramp to the next level. Phew!
